Features
- Anthropometric data was used to understand how torso shape changes as height and width change to create the best possible fit from the fewest number of shapes. Axiom Backs are designed with a lightweight aluminium shell that is formed into your choice of 4 different contour shapes and 3 levels of height support, providing optimal trunk stability and a personalised fit. Our bend forming process produces a back shell that is stiffer and stronger than those produced with typical roll forming.
- Dual mounting slots for mounting hardware offer varied and versatile hardware placement designed to accommodate a wider range of back to wheelchair size integration. Hardware options that offer up to 2” of width difference between the back and the wheelchair are available.
- Back height is adjustable independently of mounting hardware height placement offering a greater degree of placement and fitting options on the wheelchair back.
Posterior Back
Formed to offer a 2.25” lateral profile (curve) with an included adjustable lumbar pad, providing posterior back shape to position the lumbar spine. The Posterior Back (PB) allows for freedom of movement for daily activities while providing stabile and secure torso positioning.
Posterior Backs are available in Low and Mid height support levels.
Posterior Lateral Back
Formed to offer a 3.65” lateral profile (curve) with an included adjustable lumbar pad, providing posterior back shape to position the lumbar spine. The Posterior Lateral Back (PL) provides additional lateral positioning support for those in need of a moderate positioning back.
Posterior Lateral Backs are available in Low, Mid and Tall height support levels.
Deep Lateral
6.0” of lateral profile (curve), offers the highest amount of shaped lateral contour in the Axiom Back lineup. The Deep Lateral Back (DL) provides maximum lateral positioning support with a more open profile for a more neutral spine position.
Deep Lateral Backs are available in Mid and Tall height support levels.
Lateral Back
Formed to offer the same 3.65” of lateral profile (curve), but without a lumbar pad, leaving the center of the back shell more planar. The Lateral Back (LB) provides moderate lateral positioning support with a more open profile for a more neutral spine position.
Lateral Backs are available in Low, Mid and Tall height support levels.

Lateral Pads with Fixed Mounting Hardware
External fixed hardware laterals for extra support. Available with 3×4 or 4×5 curved lateral pads. Options for Posterior Back or Posterior Lateral/Lateral Back.
Laterals come with approximately 2″ of height adjustment depending on the height of the back shell. Each Lateral includes a 0.25” and a 0.5” spacer in order to accommodate a narrower trunk width.
Lateral Pads with Swing Away Mounting Hardware
External swing-away hardware laterals for extra support. Available with 3×4 or 4×5 curved lateral pads. Options for Posterior Back or Posterior Lateral/Lateral Back.
Laterals come with approximately 2″ of height adjustment depending on the height of the back shell. Each Lateral includes a 0.25” and a 0.5” spacer in order to accommodate a narrower trunk width.
Lateral Pads with Adjustable Swing Away Mounting Hardware
External swing-away laterals with adjustable-angle hardware for extra support. Added angle adjustment allows for the offsetting of the pad mount to achieve narrower trunk widths. Available with 3×4 or 4×5 curved lateral pads. Options for Posterior Back or Posterior Lateral/Lateral Back only.
Laterals come with approximately 2″ of height adjustment depending on the height of the back shell. Each Lateral includes a 0.25” and a 0.5” spacer in order to accommodate a narrower trunk width. Hardware can adjust up to 2″ narrower on each side.
Lumbar Pad
The adjustable Lumbar pad comes standard on the Posterior Back and Posterior Lateral Back. Available as an option on the Lateral Back and Deep Lateral Back. Comes in widths: 12”, 14”, 16”, 18”, 20”, and 22”.
Privacy Flap
The optional Privacy Flap is available in widths: 12”, 14”, 16”, 18”, 20”, and 22”.
Paint to Match
Painted Back Shell modification available upon request. Paint to match your chair or choose from all colour options listed on the colour tab.
Modification for 4-point Harness
Holes can be pre-drilled for a 4-point harness prior to delivery for optimal positioning of the harness. Included in Anterior Thoracic Mounting Modification.
Modification for 2-point Chest Strap
Holes can be pre-drilled for a 2-point chest strap prior to delivery for optimal positioning of the chest strap. Included in Anterior Thoracic Mounting Modification.
Modification for Shoulder Guides
Includes shoulder guides. Holes can be pre-drilled and strap guides installed prior to delivery for optimal positioning of the equipment. Included in Anterior Thoracic Mounting Modification. Included when purchasing Adjustable Shoulder Guides.
