Etac Star Cushions
Exceptional pressure care and postural stability for adults over 65. Using advanced air-cell technology, Star Cushions provide superior immersion and envelopment to reduce pressure injuries and enhance seated comfort from early prevention to complex seating.
StabilAir
Best suited to:
Clients who have mild-to-moderate stability/postural challenges, who are used to foam, who need more control, for instance in transfers or when sitting in moving chairs etc.
Air-cell Structure:
Single air chamber + additional foam baffles (soft foam cylinders) inside the air cells.
Pressure Distribution/immersion/envelopment:
Similar pressure redistribution as Standard Air, but foam baffles dampen (slow) air movement so less “sloshing”, more stability while still preserving redistribution.
Stability/Postural support:
Medium level of stability: foam baffles reduce unwanted cell movement, help reduce “sloshing” / instability when the user moves. Better for those who are used to foam and want more control.
Adjustability:
Adjustable in air level; plus foam internal structure means “feel” can be more controlled. Some additional considerations in the setup to get it right.
Feel:
Foam helps reduce air cell shifts, so more confidence in transfers/movement. Better for clients who want more feedback and less movement, but still want the pressure relief of an air cushion.
Standard Air
Best suited to:
Clients who are high risk of pressure injuries but with stable posture, minimal asymmetry, no need for offloading specific areas or shaping. Also where simplicity is important.
Air-cell Structure:
Single air chamber vertical air cell cushion. Interconnected cells.
Pressure Distribution/immersion/envelopment:
Good immersion; pressure redistributes via free movement of air as user shifts weight. Best for users who just need pressure relief without extra stability needs.
Stability/Postural support:
Lowest of the three in terms of stability beyond what air‐cells inherently provide. There’s free air flow among all the cells, so movement is relatively unrestricted. Good for users with stable posture who don’t need extra support.
Adjustability:
Adjustable air level via a single valve; one chamber, so simpler to manage.
Feel:
Light, simple feel (since no foam inserts or locking mechanisms). Possibly more “give” when moving. Might feel less stable under dynamic conditions (leaning, transfer, push from behind, etc.). Good if the client doesn’t have mobility/posture challenges.
